Jungle Monterola Onyx - The Cowboy Adventurer !
It is is a colorful top performer, smiling and friendly who welcomed us into his home at Rose Hill. He is Jungle Onyx Monterola , songwriter , performer and Filipino . Living for 2 years in Mauritius , the young man has just released his first album " Living in my dreams " inspired by Mauritius, his country of adoption with the collaboration of various local artists.
Jungle Onyx Monterola was born and grew up in Davao city located in Mindanao in the southern Philippines. Born into a family of musicians and artists , Onyx learned guitar at the age of only 12 years and enjoyed painting since childhood. At 14 he is far ahead of her little classmates and finished high school to embark on studies of medicine , especially Doctor of optometry . This cowboy who grew up on a city and her mom farm surrounded by horses , confesses that his hometown is not very different from Mauritius 's climate , mountains , and beautiful beaches . The young man , however, was captivated by the music, the culture, the diversity of the island and Mauritian themselves. "When I started my studies, I abandoned music and brushes! Before discovering Mauritius it had been years since I did not express myself artistically , but upon landing on your island , it was like a trigger for me and I immediately felt the need to paint and compose. was inspired ! "
The young man landed in Mauritius on a bet with friends on a night camping in the Philippines. With a taste for adventure he did not complain when his friends suggested he make an online profile on a site job search. Two days after he received requests from Kenya , Middle East and Mauritius. Not knowing anything of our island , it is to the latter that he choose two years ago. "I love my job but away from my art I feel like in a box. Music Gave me a life outside of the box . " He tells us that Mauritius is where he found that feeling of being in his little fantasy world through music . Seduced by the beauty of the landscape and armed with his guitar, his painting brushes and his camera, Onyx went to the discovery of the island. "Sometimes all I did was take the bus without knowing where it would take me , got to a destination that is in front of a sunset, or a mountainside or village , I observe my surroundings and I let myself be inspired by what I see. This is how I composed and wrote almost all the songs on the album. "
His album freshly released and , entitled " Living in my dreams " because according to him Mauritius gave him the opportunity to fully realize his dreams. The album tells his encounters, adventures , and especially his experiences through the island. "This album I made in my home studio and improvised with basic equipment. With my backpack , I took my laptop, my mic and I went to make recordings in nature. Also with the help of my foreign friends and Mauritian friends and with "Refugees " of Santosha Refuge I could never achieve what i did with this album . " Santosha Refuge is a place that welcome every Sunday, artists for small jam evenings with musicians and music lovers . Onyx describes his music as a mixture of Mexican reggae , country , blues , and even a little rap. A musical mix has the image of the island and the Santosha Refuge according to Onyx . The album is available both through the island at Santosha in Tamarin.
